Group or individual classes?
I am practically an activist when it comes to adults studying English one on one. I am 100% sure they are able to develop their language skills much faster than those who choose a traditional English course. A professional English teacher can identify each student’s weaknesses and strengths and develop personalized classes that will boost their fluency in no time.
However, when the students do not have a chance to put into practice what they are learning, their learning experience can feel pointless at times. They might feel discouraged and also lonely. On the other hand, the ones that have the chance to speak English in their workplace or travel abroad can experience the rewards of their efforts and get motivation from that. They feel more confident to interact with others and proud of how far they have come. Therefore, they gain more motivation to continue their studies.
I have had students recurring to apps where they can meet and talk to people from all over the world. That is definitely a great way to get motivation, encouragement and validation. Because of this positive feedback, I have been studying ways to improve my private students’ language learning experience. Last year, talented colleagues of mine and I came up with an immersion weekend program in Rio. Unfortunately, my fellow teachers couldn’t continue the project and we had to let it go.
This year, however, we have thought of a similar project and we have come up with an online group class program where our students can have a forum to interact. By doing so, they put into practice all they are learning and fill this gap of not interacting with others. I am very excited about this and wanted to share it with you.
We are initially creating a one hour online weekly group class where students from various nationalities can develop fluency through task-based activities that are relevant to them. Not only they will be able to socialize and lose their fear of talking in English, but also they will sure feel less lonely and more motivated in their own journeys.
If you are an intermediate student of English and want to know more about the program, leave it in the comments and I will be glad to contact you with more information. This project is supposed to be fun, interactive and enriching for all. Cheers!
